RE: tt versus 5er

In our state parks there are lower tree branches on quite a bit of sites and the height of the 5er sometimes is just too tall. Just another reason we did not go with a 5er...I can get in more sites here with my TT...

RE: Tow vehicles

never go wrong with a diesel. More longevity, better mileage, better towing experience. Diesel fuel is coming down. I chose diesel....It is still a personal preference. All will do the job, I just like my diesel....

RE: To Dodge or not to Dodge?

I would jump at the truck. You will not regret a diesel and the price seems good. It will outlast any other truck you buy so in the long run a diesel will save you money not only on fuel economy but also in the fact you will not have to buy another vehicle 5 years down the road because the gasser has 100000miles plus on it.At 100000 the diesel is just settling in. I love my cummins and would not trade it in for the world. In the end it is your choice but eveything seems reasonable and you are also looking at the economics of it, which is good. That is one of the reason when I bought mine I got it used. Mine was certified so I got a 8year-80000 miles powertrain warranty on it.

Cleaning black tank

I have heard that using laundry detergent with about 10 gallons of water while in transport to the campground will help clean the tank and sensore. I have never tried it but I am thinking of doing it for my next trip. What is anyones experience with this and is there a specific detergent or type to use. Also if someone has some other good ideas let me know......? thanks

RE: Ford news

I believe American and Japanese ingenuity could easily get great gas mileage but we have not wanted it. We like bigger better more powerful. One of the main reasons Audi VW get great mileage is because in Europe they HAVE to. With fuel prices and the regulations they have it is a must. Do you realize in England they charge a yearly tax on the size of you engine? Their tax on fuel is almost 40percent of the fuel cost. So it has been a must to be more efficient. With the same regulation don't you think we would change our habits also...Well if anybody has not notice it is happening already. How do you get greenhouse regulations passed.....cause a crisis....oil prices....

RE: Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel

My understanding is with a 3/4 ton with 5er's you will, for the most part, exceed the RAWR before exceeding your towing capacity. I went with the 1ton that way I have less to worry about and the mileage and price were pretty much the same. good luck on your choice....I would rather have excess then be at the limit or close to it. I can make more money but cannot replace my family. Safety....for me..but I am a little paranoid.

RE: Ford news

Don't count on that gas trend going on forever. Gas will catch up to diesel in the not so distant future. Europe has already seen the benefit of diesel. Diesel sales in Europe are now over 50percent of all sale in Europe. There is more energy per gallon in diesel. Put some good old American R&D into it and you will see 60-70 mpg diesel cars. But that is not what the tree huggers want. Keep diesel/gas high and it is easier to pass greenhouse legislation.

RE: excursion diesel or gas

I get way better mileage with my diesel then I ever did with my gas. I had an expedition with half the trailer I have now. You have tons of power with a diesel, longer motor life(mine is schedules for an overhaul at 350000 miles), maint is a wash. Oil change may cost more but I can go well over twice as long before needing one.I know there are more maint stuff involved but not all that much different.I get better mileage with the diesel loaded or unloaded compared to the gasser I had. With a head wind I really outdo my gas setup I used to have. I would be very hard pressed to go back to gas. Most people who say that their gas is as good as a diesel never owned a diesel. Night and day difference. Now I do not have a PSD, but speaking of my Cummins it is awesome. I can get 21-22 on the highway unloaded and about 14-15 towing with my diesel.

RE: thinking about buying a pop up

The pros definitely outweigh the cons. We loved out pop up. I would go back to that before we went back to the hybrid we had. I have a travel trailer and have thought about buying a small popup for occasional use. So many pros to think of... small, ease of use, convenient, easy to store, lots of places to use it, can be used with or without electricity, comfort off the ground, warmer ( can camp longer with more comfort when it gets colder out) CONS, cannot access most of the storage while down. I just used storage containers and coolers to help this, It is is raining when you leave you will need to unfold it at home to dry it off. That is the biggest complaint. but minor. Overall I think the popup is a great camping unit.

RE: Engine oil additives-anyone use ? Worthwhile?

I think almost all oil additives are a waste of money. The motor was designed to use just oil. I have even seen a report that some additive restrict some of the properties of the additives already in the oil. Like detergent and antifoam. If you get small air bubbles in the oil it decreases the lubricating properties of the oil. Some aftermarket additive lower the antifoam properties. I just still with the basic maint. schedule and just straight oil....

RE: Winter storage

they are made to be outside in the weather..I keep mine outside and never had a problem. Just wax it before the end of the season and winterize it. No problems.

RE: Anyone selling because of gas prices?

absolutely not...I will cut other things first..go out to eat less, less (gulp, hard to say this) beer....etc,,,but I will not stop...to much quality family time that we all spend together that cannot be replaced. I think it adds a reward to the family and the kids. Makes us a closer family....

RE: I think we goofed...

It is fun to watch how many people want to spend your money. Like it is just so easy to just 'upgrade' a vehicle. I think you will be just fine. Get a WDH, good brake controller. Drive safe, and manage your speeds and weights. Don't try and win any races. I have a 3500 dodge ram diesel and I still do all of this stuff.I keep my speed on the safer side, have WDH and have a Tekonsha brake controller.I find if I take my time and relax while driving instead of trying to make the best time make a more relaxing ride then having the biggest tow vehicle. I know I severly overdid it with my vehicle but it was a deal I would have been dumb to pass up. Otherwise I would have a smaller TV. In retrospect you will always get 3times more negative info then positive info. So keep this in mind when asking any question. The neysayers always like to pipe in before everyone else. By the way mine is only a 6cylinder also...he he he...just be safe have fun and enjoy....Keep us informed on how it did. I am curious on how you felt it towed/handled....

RE: 2010 Titan with a Cummins under the hood? Yep

I believe it is a cooperation between the two. Dodge will design Nissan's new truck and Nissan will design a car for dodge.

RE: Sewer dump question

The biggest problem, at least for me, is that the pipes going from the grey tank to the drain is smaller then the blacks. If you have a load of paper or 'stuff' in the black that got shoved into the grey it could drain slow or clog the smaller pipes. Possibility is low but could happen. I for one would not want to even take that chance no matter how small it would be...

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

amen to camping with cash...also to take into consideration you can have a diesel longer then a gas ...so that means I do not have to buy a new vehicle as often....there in itself is a savings..

RE: Are we unreasonable? Recent Camping experience...

I would not have been that patient. You rented that space and they should have respected that. I can get very loud and vocal and at some point patience wears out. You have every right to have peace and some quite while you rent that space. I would not put up with it for very long. Next time don't put up with it, you don't have to.
